Lidls once in a while stocks some kind of Parkside tool, drills, dremels, etc but they are only ever in stock for a very short time and they don't restock them for 12 months or so. How can a tool manufacturer stay in business like this?
Do they only manufacture the tool for a short time before selling them in lidls stores across the UK for a week or so before discontinuing the item? Surely this is a waste, they have all the equipment and machinery to make that tool then put it to rest for 11 months before there next promotion to sell that tool in a year or so time.
I assume that's what they do because when the promotion is over, trying to ask lidl if they could get just one more is impossible and they look at you weird as if you are asking if lidls offers time travel!

Most of the parkside tools are ok-ish however their cordless Dremel like tool is total rubbish, the spindle bearings went after a few goes on light hobby work the same happened to my neighbour when he got one. But they won't replace it as they are a discontinued item.

So I'd assume quality can't be that good, if they only manufacture them for a short time. The only other possibility is that Lidl or Parkside buys a surplus batch from some factory in China and puts its own name on the casing. But eventually that batch runs out and hence no more of that tool.

I would class Parkside as light diy only, probably have plastic gears and cheap Chinese bearings, I'm a firm believer of he who buys cheap buys twice however if lidl or Parkside are silly enough to give a 3 year guarantee you'll probably only ever have to buy the tool once, that's fine but what happens when they try wriggling out of replacement or refund say if the tool is a year old, what happens when your tool breaks in between store offers and they don't have any stock to replace yours with, do they order you a new tool or refund you, sorry but it's all too much stacked in their favour, I'm a tool snob I'll admit specifically deWalt, some will mock and say it's just yellow black and decker but I know when I go to the tool shop with my deWalt it'll be repaired no questions asked whether within 1 year or their 3 year guarantee, I've put it to the test and never been disappointed, lidl would be pot luck

Having thought about it more you may as well try erbauer from screwfix, no quibble 3 year guarantee and the tool is available throughout the year not just on monthly deal never to be seen again, if they haven't got it in its next day delivery or if it's discontinued they'll upgrade you for free I'm sure

They are there for a short time to create an urge in people and make it special!
If they were available year-round it would take up so much more space for them and they would probably get less sales overall!

My dad bought one of those dremel tools as well- It was terrible, after that he has hardly ever bought anything from lidl tools due to sour taste in mouth after that dremel.

Parkside tools are aimed at DIYers (they are only good for that honestly...) so they just don't need to provide them year-long.

In parkside /workzone's defence ...

There is a spares back up online and both aldi and lidl refund the full purchase price so long as you have the receipt

It's only diy stuff but can be as cheap to buy a small it is to hire

They are extremely good value for money I agree- and they are more than perfect for DIY'ers or if you just need the tool once.
however I like to do a lot of DIY /building/woodworking so I can justify spending more to get much nicer tools even if they cost 3-4x more.

I think they had Cordless jigsaw a couple of weeks ago for just 40pounds... That included battery+charger as well.

I have a Makita cordless Jigsaw which cost 160 , I got loads of the makita tools so I already have the batteries/charger ,but generally its about 40 for battery + 35 for charger so that's 235 pounds VS 40 !!! Insane difference...
But at the end of the day Good quality tools hold their value extremely well, so I can get more or less most of the money back If I decided to sell it.

Not really. The Makita tool is more robust and will last longer in a trade or heavy DIY environment (e.g. a self-build). It will also be possible to get spares 5 or 10 years down the line. Yer pays yer money....

That said, even as a tradesman I still have a few Parkside tools at home, normally for tasks outside my own trade requirements (and for one-offs). I've found them generally OK - and very cheap

Yeah that's why I have the makita, but still that's an Insane difference for essentially almost the same thing.

I just got some of the hand tools (£1.99 ea or 3 for £5), the pipe wrench is ok but the cutters are not exactly sharp.

Parkside Tools are imported for Lidl and are available online (https://www.lidl.de/de/parkside/b183) even if not currently on offer?. I believe they are actually manufactured to a German specification (closely resembling Bosch DIY standards)and interestingly? on the german site they are rated for trade not just DIY. Im guessing the actual manufacturer is a company in China , probably Positec, who are better known as the manufacturer of the WORX & ROCKWELL range under their own banner. The thing that convinces me is the spares for Parkside are available officially through Lidls service agent Eienhell Tools (UK) http://www.einhelltools.co.uk/cmspage.php?page_id=69 ) and its common knowledge Einhell are WORX /POSITEC manufactured.
Ive bought a few of their power tools (and some WORX) to replace some old & stolen Bosch items, namely the 20v hammer drill, mains circular saw, Angle grinder and Pneumatic Drill. All have performed flawlessly and for a DIY'er they are excellent quality and a sensible economical option.

They can be value for money but I now avoid the cordless versions because they are absolutely shyte and will last a few months max if you're lucky.

Bought a workzone cordless multitool from a mate as he bought 2 when they were available for that short time. Sold one to me and it went dead by the 3-4th use. He lost the receipt so I couldn't get a refund but wouldn't give me the money back. ****.

but that's the point they're not the same thing and put them side by side and the difference is obvious, bash them both around site for a year and see which are still going strong, compare battery capacities etc
I agree marketing etc can play a part in pricing sometimes but there is far more at play here apart from the quality, there is the customer back up, the non obsolescence of spare parts for many years after manufacturer, genuine warranties and reliance on brand reputation.

These tools and other similar tools are just re badged china imports, their quality is sufficient for the work they are designed for ie,

Hobby use,
One off project use,
Occasional use,
Light home use,

If a tool fails due to a manufacturing defect within a reasonable time, then they should replace or refund but they get out of this by saying the tool has been incorrectly used.

Lidl sell parkside branded diy stuff all around europe http://www.lidl.nl/nl/Offerdate.htm?id=1272

So buy cheap buy twice.

Edit, the question is "parkside tools are they any good ?"
Answer,Yes
