Do you think it would come off ... it's very wet at the moment as the leak has only been fixed today

We are supposed to be buying this house and are very concerned about that wall

fix the fault first, then let it dry.

When it is dry the algae will die and start to weather away. soluble mineral salts will come out of the wall and leave white deposits on the brick. Don't try to wash them off, they will just soak back into the brickwork. they will also weather away over time.

Haven't we seen this one before? It looks like a two month leak is a conservative estimate.....
Don't let it put you off the purchase though.
John :)

It is definitely only 8 weeks as our surveyor picked it up at survey and was literally a trickle

The sellers had tenants in and despite British gas going twice it has escalated to this in 8 weeks

They buyers now want to exchange and complete but I have grave concerns about damp and stain and salt stains

If the surveyor has seen it and is happy that it's just surface damp and the pointing is intact then shouldn't be an issue. Just have it mentioned in the survey report and then you're covered. It will dry up eventually. Depending on the mortar and brick condition there might not be any mineral staining/leaching and the mould/algae can be jet washed as phil mentions.
