Heard some stuff on the radio about comparing the summer weather this year to the summer of '76.

I don't think it has gone on so long and the big difference for me is that in '76 there was prolonged drought, with reduced rainfall commencing the summer of the previous year.

What do you lot think?

Was living in Iran in '76 so can't compare.. was pretty hot there tho!

1976 was very hot and prolonged dry weather resulted in many corn fields and other crops going up in flames causing long diversions for traffic.

Well I recall the vinyl seat in my Dad's car being really hot when I wore shorts, if that helps.

'75 was hotter but for a short period.
'76 not as hot but was an extended period - something like 10-12 weeks.

Dennis Howel became minister for Drought - then it rained!

1976,went to ibiza on a club 18/30 holiday and cant remember the weather in ibiza thou but it was hot ;)

Can't remember '76 specifically, but summers when I was a kid (as I remember them) seemed to be hot and dry, with occasional thunderstorms.
Summers were reliable, whereas nowadays, the seasons seem to be less defined, and very much more hit-and-miss.

And Mungo Gerry would have been played of course. Ahh, those were the days; summers just aren't the same nowadays.

when did drink-driving stop being a fun thing and socially acceptable?
