Running a duct to a cooker hood

Think he has a point,tenants have rights and they know them off by heart.

HawKEye from your opening post there was no mention of new mould growth,basement and naughty tenants. so somehow more room air changes have to be introduced.

I know he has a point I resent being told how to suck eggs, that's why I'm annoyed at his comment.

You can get longer tubing, but sods law says that with a 105mm core drill, it'll twist sufficiently that the tubing won't go through, so work with a larger core drill, and then fill the void with expanding foam, then cement front and back to hold it in position afterwards. You can get the grill and cowling seperately, and you just need to search for ventilation ducting for loads of options.

The caveat, is that it might be better to plan ahead, and use a 152mm hole, and that'll let you put a larger vent in later if necessary.

No he doesn't. Hawkeye is attempting to improve the situation for the tenants, and by the sound of it, he's already gone above and beyond what's necessary. I can't think of any legislation that hasn't been covered, or contravened.

That's fine as long as the rented accommodation is fit for use. This will supersede the fact that Hawk has done all he can irrespective of whether he has gold plated the taps or fitted a heli-pad to the window boxes.

But nothing you've been told indicates it isn't. But you have been told that the tenants close the windows, and cause condensation problems, so Donalds suggestion that he should have got the problem sorted out before they moved in, was at best unnecessary and irrelavant; and you're a good enough builder to understand that there's no proffesional advice to be sought, and that he's attempting to fulfill any legal obligations that may be relevant.

Thanks for the info as always Doggs, I'll make sure to upsize the hole as you suggest. Fully clear now on what I need to do. Photos to come.

But you have been told that the tenants close the windows
Are you saying tenants should be prohibited from closing windows?

and cause condensation problems
All human occupancy causes condensation. Some buildings (like basement locations) are much more susceptible than others. Hawk needs to go over and above what is considered normal to make this place work.

:LOL::ROFLMAO:
That post made my day!

Anyway I actually had some serious advice if everyone's behaving themselves:LOL:, if you find the tenants don't use the hood fit a constant mechanical ventilation with trickle/boost.
Trickle should only need around 15l/s in a kitchen so if you get a silent fan they won't notice, and it will flow through 100mm rigid round no problem.
Since it's silent they won't think to disable it.
