Hi could someone show me or tell me how to wire a start and stop button to a contractor so that it stays on when the on button is pressed and goes off when the stop button is pressed.
thanks for your reply. i'm just wanting to learn to be honest but i find it hard to work from the drawings for now as they confuse me a bit would the wiring be the same for any voltage? i.e 12v to 400v?
The start button (normally open) energises the coil which, as well as completing the circuit for the appliance, also completes the coil circuit which keeps the coil energised.
Then the stop button (normally closed) opens and disconnects the supply to the coil which releases the contactor and opens the appliance circuit(s).
Though when delving into 400 volt, the coil voltage would determine how its wired.
Although the basic circuit is similar
A 240 volt coil would have the control circuit wired across L and N
A 400 volt coil would have the control circuit wired across Phase and Phase and could even have no Neutral present
