Smashed ladder fastener into 2.1 metre height parking barrier

Just ripped a bit of top of van out only if u look close as it pulled top of front roof bar out as I was in a rush ( just started owning a van) and hit the 2.1 metre barrier in a car park with rhino roof clamps which stick up in air. Feel complete idiot. My mechanic will have to weld it back I guess.

Even without them think ladder wouldn't quite clear height barrier.

Nah. Should I? It was a concrete barrier so just my vehicle damaged. Don't think I damaged anything although didn't thoroughly check it to know for sure. Probably be on on TV clip 'idiots in vehicles'. I guess if it was a thin metal one u get in some car parks I could have damaged it.

Does this happen much? Why they have these anyhow?

Most of the height restriction barriers are to keep caravans and similar out of the car park to avoid travellers set up home there.

Yes been caught out, in Belgium idea was park outside the town with car and caravan and catch bus into town, I was clearly closer to centre than I thought, car park sign so turned where it directed narrow street around a corner then height limit, OK did not hit it, but caravan including A frame was 20 foot long, street 18 foot wide, so had to reverse back around the corner and then with help of wife into main road before driving off again.

I will give locals their due, I got a round of applause. Oh I was glad I had worked on a farm as a boy and could reverse a trailer.

If your self employed then I would imagine not, if you work for a firm that takes H&S seriously and asks you to carry out weekly/monthly equipment checks then you write them off and buy a new set
