No, its an either or fitment.
Not strictly true. There is nothing intrinsically "special" about individual manufacturers dust extraction systems - they are pretty much interchangeable, so for example, I have Mafell, Metabo, Makita, deWalt, Bosch and, yes, Festool tools being served by a Metabo extrator (mine own) and a Hilti extractor (the firm's). The critical issue with trade use is the extraction standard, with Class L being suitable only for general extraction, vacuuming floors, etc, Class M being required for extracting wood dusts and other potentially harmful dusts (such as paint dusts, etc) and Class H being the preserve of the really nasty stuff like asbestos. As a tradesman using these, or having a tool with an on-board bag, is no longer optional - and in any case using the correct dust extractor is also good practice for your health. And that's coming from someone in his sixties who still sees the need to extract rather than end up with pneumoconiosis (which helped do for my old man).
Would be an interesting review to have wouldn't it, can you just plug other tools into any dust extractor, because in my experience they love to make their own fitments with their own pipe gauges so having a selection of tools and dust extractors and no cobbling together with ducktape would be an interesting review considering the importance of H&S.
