Hi lads,

what typical install cost for labour, double sided stove costing £849,chimney to left but will need to cut if up a bit to get bend flue in or it can be done with twin flue (not using existing chimney) although I hear this is expensive...for a 5 meter straight up from stove which would leave a meter up from roof (its a one floor bungalow) is this about £700? I want to go into the chimney tho which is 4 feet to the right of the stove and already part opened, would mean tho removing more chimney brick to expose pipe which will need cutting further up for the 45% bend, of course a lintel would need inserting above before removing bricks further down.

thanks

A picture speaks a thousand words...try posting a couple ;)

You're only allowed 20% of the total run to be on an angle, the rest has to be straight up, so if you're going across 4 ft (1.2m) that's an angled run of 1.7m, which means that your total flue length needs to be 8.5m. You also need to go at least 600mm vertically before any bends. If you think you're going to get that done for £700 supplied and fitted you're in lala land, the materials alone will come to well over £1000 in twinwall. Not sure what you mean by "bend flue"

Of course, as it's a twins sided stove, if you take the chimney out, then you've got to do that up in the loft as well, so that's really going to cost to do that. Normally, twin sided stoves sit in the middle of the chimney, with the pipe going up straight, so why does yours need a bend.

TBF, he did tell you how much it cost :)

Very true indeed @FiremanT and of course a starting price could be reached for sure, as is with most cases of these types of question and as @muggles has hinted at. If it's getting into the realms of structural work around the chimney etc though then that's where I was coming from. :) I'm sure most would agree that the costs can spiral pretty quickly once into that and that's when it gets impossible to gauge without seeing it.

I will post pics guys great you all trying to help. If it was one sided it could sit under the chimney which is opened but we want a double so its right of the chimney in front room bout 4 feet this s so other side is in kitchen l already have that knocked thru but it means going across to chimney but of course chimney needs cutting higher up for connecting to stove for angle, it will meantaking some brick out to get to chimney pot entrance, maybe just as well forget chimney and go straight up into lift and out roof with twin flue its bout 4 meters to roof so does that mean 5 meters with meter outside on roof would do? Pics to follow, thanks

Doesnt need bend a need to connect stove to chmney which is currently same level as out of stove, so chimney neefs cutting to connect to stove, only asked bout twin as alternative to using chmney thus creating new chmney and leaving the real old one alone?

Total quote to use twin and dont use chmney £3500, this includes stove at £849. Quote has vat of £500 from just under £3k but does that not mean im paying vat twice on stove and other parts? Should vat be labour only??

Why not post some pictures, then we'll both know what we're talking about. You've got the quote in front of you, not us, so it's difficult to comment on it.

If the stove is bought by the installer, and passed to you, he should charge the pre vat price then add the VAT to the total. BUT that assumes that he buys the stove from a VAT registered trader.
EG:
Stove £ 707.50 (£849 less VAT)
Materials £ 1000.00
Labour £ 1200

TOTAL £ 2907.50

VAT £ 581.50

TOTAL £ 3489.00

If the stove is bought from a non VAT registered supplier, then the £849 will be subject to VAT when he invoices you.

Is the installer a retail shop?, or is it bought from a completely different outlet? Sometimes a retailer of "trade goods" will illegally price items as £xxx Plus VAT. (So, could the Stove be priced at £849+ VAT ?). This is illegal only when selling retail, as opposed to business to business. So, a builders merchant may have their product priced as PLUS VAT, but if they are open to retail trade, they should show prices including VAT.
If the retailer is not VAT registered, then, obviously, you will be better off buying the stove, then paying the installer for hos labour and materials only

Thanks for breakdown that looks about right for the quote, stove from retailer £749 or so without vat £849 with the installer has a fireplace showroom so they would zquire the stove, so theycharge vat on total of all at end, should a buy stove delvered first would it save much? Pics to post soon thanks
Stove from retailer http://www.stoveworlduk.co.uk/double-sided-stoves?product_id=272
Installer have their own fireplace shop hetas registered.

Here's knock thru for double sided a meter right is chimney can put flue in chimney customers too low so chimney needs cutting further up to allow bend and flow. Maybe better straight up with twin ?
