Hi,
I'm contemplating using a wet and dry vacuum to clean out my leaf and detritus filled gutters. I would have to fit an extended hose with a hooked nozzle on the end but as I live in bungalow this shouldn't be too difficult.
The thing is, how powerful would the vacuum have to be? I notice that the professional gutter machines go to about 2500 watts and around £600, too much for my pocket,
I'd appreciate some advice on this please

I'm rather hoping to be able to stand on the ground and suck up the leaves with me W&D vac. Even shortish ladders are a bit discombobulating at my advance age.
But thanks for you input.

Sorry I was not clear. I just assumed that you would recognise it. That brush
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gardena-Combisystem-cleaning-clearing-suitable/dp/B0001E3WCI/
is one of the Gardena tools that fits onto their handles, e.g.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gardena-3723-20-Pure-Wooden-Handle/dp/B0001E3WE6/

I have 1300 & 1500mm handles but when doing the gutters I mostly use a small (800mm) handle.

There are other gutter cleaning brushes available, most of them are extendable. Some say they extend to 3m or more, which I think would make them unweildy.

I have a number of Gardena tools so I got the Gardena gutter cleaning brush because I could use my existing handles, and because it was on discount at Screwfix!

Consider the Einhell machine - around 1500w - which has a stainless drum and good filtering. It has a longish hose (which will always be difficult to find)
and with some enterprise you can conjure up a device which will turn into the gutter. How about a plastic U bend from plumbers merchants, and some Gorilla tape?
John :)

Right, I'll have a look at the Einhell vac tomorrow. If the suction hose is of a diameter than can be easily extended, I'll look at a plumbers merchants selection of pipe and crooks and things.
Many thank. I'll let you know how I get on.

Might just be cheaper to get an odd job man to come do it for you.

Discombobulating yes I know how you feel I have that
experience when I sit in front of a computer.

Well, I've been rather disappointed. Most 'ordinary' wet and drys vac seem to have tubes of around 1.5ins, or 36mm. This is probably fine for sucking up dust, small debris, little bits and pieces, and of course, water. Now I know from experience that wet leaves in gutters quite often form a sort of clump which is quite often about double the measurements I've shown. Hmmn.
I can see now why pro gutter systems have motors using up to 3000 watts. It would take that power to drag clumps through the tubes into the guts of the vacuum. And that power costs.
I'm going down to a commercial cleaning suppliers on Monday to see if they have any ideas.
Incidentally, I fetched an odd job man a few days ago to see my gutters. He walked around the bungalow and then said 'how does £80 sound to you. You read stories in the papers of old people being ripped off, don't you....

Heck, Im due to do mine - ill be doing my neighbours for free.

The mortgage doesn't pay itself. £80 for potentially half a day's work not to say he's got work for the afternoon lined up and fuel cost. I'd say that's reasonable.

And then there's more money than sense.

Take your pick ladies and gents.

I did mine off a ladder recently, but also did my neighbours for free as well, as they dont have ladders and our gutter drains through their downpipe. Good for both of us! I just scraped it out then hosed the floor down after.

Telescopic lance for a power washer is the way to go for gutter cleaning.

I just cut a semi circle of ply to fit gutter, fix to the end of drain cleaning rods and remove the end cap from gutter. Drop in one end and drag everything out into a bucket, takes about 30secs.
