Run 12v Garden Lights off 24v Transformer?

I had another thread about my garden lights not working and since found that the transformer had gone.

Now i do have a brand new 24v transformer from another set of lights which never got used and was hoping to use that as its much better quality.

What i want to know though is how can i get my 12v lighting powered from this? What do i need to install before the cable reaches the first bulb?

Another transformer to turn your 24v to 12v !

If the lights are 12v, your only practical option is to get a 12v transformer.

Wire your 12v lights in series pairs if you can manage it.

You can wire all the pairs teed off the 24v main wiring feed.

Only downside is if one light fails it's paired light will also not work.

Unfortunately the lights are already installed and arent accesible without doing a bit of digging. They are just linked to together so first light connects to the next etc. And the last one is just capped off

Can you fit 24v bulbs in your fittings?.

Other option is some form of load reducing resistor in series?.

Thanks, do i need to worry about wattage with those? Assume it will only push out whats going in?

Do you know the current draw of your LED lights, how many have you got?.

They normall take next to no current (amperage) so that shouldn't be an issue.

You can always send them a message and ask?.

It has a pretty big heatsink.

Search 192007762971 in ebay (item number), 10 amps @ 12v output.

Well to start, im finding it hard to find an 'out of the box' transformer that will do the job.

I need a 12v and around 6-10w output to power about 15 led decking lights. The connection coming off it need to be a 1 pin.

As i already have this one (albeit a 2 pin) i was hoping to just cut the end of and connect the wires plus whatever else needs to be done.

If anyone can point me in the direction of a suitable out of the box job then i will obviously consider

No such thing. Transformers by definition produce AC.

Any 12 v 1 amp DC power supply will do anything it, Maplins, eBay etc.

Thanks, putting it that way makes it sound much easier. Assume i just get any and cut off whatever connector comes with it and join my wire to it?
