Wago 221s

They might.

But if they are making better ones, why are they not making them to a different design in order to differentiate them more clearly from an inferior product?

That they make them to look like this:

does not say to me that they want people to think they are different from Wagos. It says they want them to think they are the same.

Cheap, poor quality knock-offs? Or identical and from the same production line in the same factory in China?

I have some of both, so I just took these pictures for you...

Subtle differences on top...

Wildly different...

They (the chinesium ones) seem to function OK, I only use them for tinkering with 12v DC stuff/bench testing.

Would I trust them for long term use at 230v AC with a reasonable amount of current... ... ... No!

As a matter of interest, which make and type (lever/push-in) are you thinking of getting?
In the end a selection of 221 levers, 224 lighting, 773 push-in, 2273 push-in (the latter are much smaller than I expected), and Ideal splice-lines and some Wagoboxes, Wagobox Lights and Wagobox XLs.

As I wasn't hitting the minimum order value for free shipping from QVS, CPC Farnell turned out to be the cheapest.
