Help With Concrete Floor

Hi All,

Just built a small enclosed porch to the front of our house. I now need to bring the new floor up, over the top of the old concrete porch base, and level to the existing floor inside the hallway.

As can be seen in the attached side cutaway pic, the floor needs to come up a maximum of 94mm over the new block and beam base, but over the old base the depths are all over the shop!

The area lengths are shown, and the area width is 2030mm.

Any ideas how to fill the voids and get the concrete in, do I just pack it up with Celotex/Kingspan board?

Any ideas on this one? Got some time off work this week to get it done...

Point 1 is existing finished floor level in the house.
Point 2 is level I need to bring up to Point 3
Point 3 is base floor of enclosed porch
Points 2 & 3 will both need to come up 95mm to the arrow (finished floor level)

All the timber is just holding up whats left of the meter cupboard - its all going!

Sand DPM then concrete.
Or just fill with concrete over there DPM.
Or use some 50mm polystyrene then DPM then concrete.

Do you mean sand, dpm and concrete in just the old (red) area? How deep for the sand? Concrete up to the new base floor (point 3) or right up to finished floor level?

Level off the holes with concrete, then DPM then concrete. No need for any blinding sand.

Don't over think it, just throw the stuff in.

But TBH, you probably want to be using screed not concrete as you wont get a good finish with concrete unless you plan on using some self-leveller afterwards

How good are your skills, and how level do you feel you can get the floor. If you throw in some concrete to bring 2 up to the level of 3, then you can add in a dpm, then 40mm of cellotex, then 50mm concrete, then self leveling compound to finish it. Woody can give you a better set of thicknesses if I'm out.

You can just build the level up with sand or broken bricks etc as it's cheaper than filling it all with concrete. You need about 100mm of concrete.
As it's a small area you should be able to get a good enough finish on it without needing a screed.

Points 2 & 3 will both need to come up 95mm

I don't think even Mr Kipling would get a nice smooth finish with concrete.
