Bad spray job

Hi,

Hoping for answer to this if there are any spray experts out there?
Unfortunately an inconsiderate moron dented my lease car in a car park, it went through the insurance company and they sent out a man in a van to respray it (I believe they are part of the autoglass organisation). I had them back 3 times to go over it and in the end still wasn't entirely happy however it was acceptable.

Today I had the car valeted and the whole door is now covered in light scratch marks. The rest of the car is fine so my question is what the hell have they done? Should I T-cut it (or what ever it's called these days?)

Obviously I'm going back to complain but would like some info to back my case up, after moaning 3 times before I felt I was getting fobbed off with technical jargon?
Any help of advice to rectify it would be great?

Stu, whatever you do don't advance on the car with a can of T-Cut in your hand - it'll only end in tears! (Double tears if a pearlescent metallic )
A professional bodyshop can buff out any amount of scratches with the correct techniques and compounds......it sounds like your mobile chips away person bit off more than he could chew here.

Contact the insurance company, ask them for an independent inspection, and then get someone else to redo the job.

It sounds like you might have hologram swirl marks left on the surface.

Since the rest of the car is fine, maybe the door is softer paint. If the car was polishedveith a dual action polisher maybe they used the wrong grade

There are a few different grades

And used with the wrong compound could be too aggresive on soft paint.

Or the pad was contaminated, it doesnt take much for swirl marks to appear.

If you view the paintwork with a torch, you should get a better picture.

Of course not; that would have shown up problems on other panels. As the rest of the car was fine, and only the resprayed panel affected, then it had to be the respray that hadn't hardened properly.

I paint cars for a living so maybe I can help. I also did the man in a van bit for a while so can see it from both sides.

When you said you had them back 3 times to "go over it", do you mean they painted it that many times? If so then that's your problem right there. Far too much paint and it will forever be soft, so will scratch easily and over time may well cause even more serious issues.

I'll not bog you down with the technical side for now but feel free to ask as many questions as you like and I'll do my best to help. See where you get with your insurance company first though as that's definitely your first call. Let them know you aren't happy and hopefully they'll rectify the problem, but painting it yet again without stripping what's been put on already is absolutely not what you want.
