Hi all.
I'm having my bathroom done in April.
And I'm planning on fitting an extractor fan to improve conditions.
Already in the bathroom is a vent.

Which goes into the wall cavity and to a brick vent.

I have attached some pictures so you can see what I mean.

Now to my question.

When I fitted my kitchen fan system. I used a fitted vent on the outside and piped the air directly from the fan to the vent.

My problem with doing that in the bathroom is I cannot afford to hire the equipment to get me up there to remove the brick vent. And fit a plastic one.

Has anyone got any suggestions.

Thanks

Call me kamikaze, but I’d just stand on the single storey roof to do the work.

Or if the Health and safety in you kicks in, why not leave that vent as is and bang a new one in where you can access. Block the old one up inside.

There’s no reason why you can’t fit a fan to extract through that air brick; one of mine does something similar. It may need some improvisation, e.g. a piece of plywood to fit the existing rectangular internal hole with a round hole in it to suit the fan. Plus some sort of lining to bridge the cavity, if there isn’t currenlty anything like that. And you’ll want a back-draught shutter on the back of the fan itself, rather than relying on the external vent having flaps.

Alternatively, there are vents that you can fit from the inside only, i.e. you drill a big hole from the inside, push it through, and they pop open.
So you could use one of those in a new hole, and block up the existing one.

please take off that plastic vent and show us what's behind it.

I reckon you can probably work from the inside.
