Hi
I have double doors that separate the front from back room.
House is 50's.

I removed the bolts that secure one door closed, and have now lost them.
Normal,simple, brass round straight, around 100mm body

Any recommendations for a decent quality supplier?
all the sheds have the same tat

Thanks

One of the hinges on the door closing the passage beside the house was badly corroded so I replaced the pair and all the other door furniture (as it was old and a bit tatty). I got all of this from Ironmongery Direct

The hinges (and a couple of other items) were fine. The rest of the door furniture was rubbish. Even though they were clearly meant for out door use they were not suitable, all rusted in weeks and the bolts were so rusty in a couple of months that it was hard to slide them and I had to replaced them.

Just my experience. YMMV.

presumably brass plated steel? yes, it is rubbish. Even painted zinc-plated hinges etc last better. You sometimes get brassed screws, which might be OK for a while indoors, but do not withstand damp or even humidity.

I have occasionally used PVD brass on stainless, which is more expensive but (on the shed door) has remained free of rust and tarnish. I believe it is some kind of vacuum deposit. I will probably use it on the front door later.

I've no specific recommendation, but would suggest avoiding electro-brass/brass-plated/brass-colour/brass-look/brass-effect/brassed and anything else that doesn't claim to be solid brass; these days they're mostly very thin coatings over cheap steel. (PVD brass on stainless is an exception, but probably still not as good in this application)

Sounds like rack bolts to me.

@JohnD

Sorry, what was clear in my mind was not, I now realise, clear in what I wrote. I was not commenting on brass products from ID but on their products generally.

The hinges (which have been fine) & the Suffolk latch (which has not) both say "Hot dipped galvanised with a black powder coating" and "Suitable for exterior use". The Suffolk latch moving parts seem to have rubbed and stripped both coatings off PDQ leading to rust.

The bolts (also not okay) now say "Regular maintenance with household wax polish is required to prevent rusting" and "Designed for interior doors". I can't prove that their website was different several years ago but I doubt very much that I would have bought bolts like that for an exposed door.
