Plastering over Copper water pipe

Hi,

Is it safe to plaster directly over copper water pipes or should they be wrapped or protected somehow. I've got a couple running up a channel in my bathroom wall and will be getting the whole room re-plastered soon.

if the wall is masonry its recommended to run the pipes in a duct with a removable cover,although many people just do what they want to

Yes it's masonry. Might be a bit tight on cover for a duct but I'll see what I can do.

Plastic coated copper pipe was meant to be directly buried in plaster. The expansion of the copper was meant to be taken up by the plastic coating. It worked well with gas but not so well with water leaving cracks on hot water pipes.

Many guys did a double wrap of Denso tape. The tape takes up expansion and protects the pipe, when the plaster is hard.

I have seen some use spray on foam then skim over. The foam takes up expansion of the pipe.

Is the problem likely to be with the expansion of the pipe(s) causing cracks to the plaster or long term corrosion of the copper by the plaster?

Once the wall is plastered, I'll be tiling over it.

Do not plaster over the pipe leaving it in a duct under the tiles. Wrap the pipe with plastic tape.
