I live under a tree - how to stop gutters blocking?!

My house is under the canopy of a very large lime tree and my gutters are regularly blocking with leaves or seeds. I'm clearing them about once a week at the moment or in advance of any significant rain that is forecast!

Obviously clearing them so regularly cannot be a long term solution! What is the best answer for this situation?

Are there any gutter designs that simply do not block? I don't mind replacing the whole lot with something that doesn't block!

You could try a gutter hedgehog, although Ive heard they arent as great as they seem......cant remember the reason why though.

Sadly it's a protected tree in a conservation area so that is not an option. As much as the gutters blocking is frustrating, the tree (and others in the area) does enhance the character of the area.

The regulations allow for trees to be lopped or even cut down if they're causing a nuisance to a neighbour, but not on your own property. That always struck me as a little bizarre given it is the Council that makes the TPO thus preventing you as owner from doing what you like on your own land.

Gutter guards prevent leaves/twigs/moss from settling in the gutter, they settle on the gutter guard and surroundings instead so maybe/maybe not a solution to your specific problem.

Blup

But you can make an application to the council for pruning, lopping or even felling a tree with TPO. I used to see lots of them when I was tracking my PP application on the council website.

I’d like to poison a tree on council land that is giving me grief. What’s the best way/time of year to do it? It’s surrounded by paving/tarmac so was thinking of drilling into the trunk with a wood bit near the base and pouring something in it. Any ideas what to use?

something like this would be better than hedgehog, surely?
