Wearing a body cam

That unfortunately is just the way it is.
report it and nowt happens.

As for the body cam thing, I'd just do it with a button hole one for my own protection, IMO there is no point telling anyone that your wearing a hidden camera as then the secret is out and they wont do the crap that they would do if they did not know.
If nothing happens, you don't keep or show the footage to anyone then IMO there is no harm done.

Taking photographs of someone in their own property without them knowing is a breach of Privacy Law

Which law is that then? got a link to it?
Who is going to do anything about it? who prosecutes this? who regulates it? who prevents it?
No one, no one cares, especially if no one knows.

If your accused of something and you bring out video evidence that shows it did not happen, the last thing that is on peoples minds is to do you for having a hidden body cam.
So many "services" wear them, even when they enter private property yet they don't get prosecuted or have to turn it off. They can claim it is for their protection - just as we can.

A simple internet search on the all mighty Google answers everything you asked. Visit my house with a secret CCTV camera on your body with no intention of telling me and I find out you would be in a world of trouble... :cautious:

Anyone wearing a Body cam has to have the badge information on the camera displayed that they are recording what is going on

What trouble would that be then?
From the government website https://www.sia.homeoffice.gov.uk/pages/licensing-bodycams.aspx
If you simply wear a headcam or bodycam but do not watch or review any of the footage from that device, the SIA takes the view that this does not fall within the public space surveillance (CCTV) definition. You would therefore not require a Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) licence.
The ICO documentation also only applies to organisations (and their employees) and not individuals and has guidelines.

@Bosswhite - says who? says what?

I wonder how all these whistleblowing videos with secret recordings manage to get on TV if they are illegal?

Heck, I may now go and buy myself a secret body camera just so I can wear it :)

Dont forget to get a licence .

Matt you have posted a link and misinterpreted what it says.

Read it again :cautious:

Please do buy yourself a secret cam and go do some filming on private property then tell the person after you have left and report back.

If you run your own business it won’t end well for you.

Guys, please either quote the law that says a license is needed - and the specific bit or stop spreading false rumors.
I don't have a business - the "guidance" does not apply to me.

The part you quoted saying you do not need a license says you do not review or watch the footage. So you are going to record people in their home for no reason basically as when you get home you will just have to delete it?

This is a good read around section 7 - https://ico.org.uk/media/for-organisations/documents/1542/cctv-code-of-practice.pdf

You strike me as someone who wants to be very padantic and expects someone to post a law saying for example “under section 3 of the privacy act it is illegal to film someone with out their permission on a private property” there is no exact line saying that but plenty around privacy in private places.

What you are trying to say here is irresponsible if a small business owner thought it was ok to wear a hidden camera in a customers house without consent and was caught their business would be finished. Larger companies such as debt collectors wear body cameras but are clearly visible and everyone is aware. I would destroy someone who filmed secretly in my house if I found out even if I had to lie and claim voyesium or sexual predator was their motivation as that is how it could be seen and that would end a lot of people’s careers.

Ask yourself if you are thinking about following mattylad’s advice is it worth it? Even if no criminal prosecution was bought against you the damage to your company name would be irreversible.

Matty you say you don’t have a business what reason are you going to random peoples houses? If you are working that is business, you will have a contact number for people to ask you to come and do work you will have a name you use to be contacted that will be destroyed if found.

If you feel that you need to wear a bodycam to work in a customers property, then that customer is not for you. Walk away from the job.

Andy

Yet again you fail to give the exact law that says no one can wear a bodycam in others private properties. (I suspect that you cannot do this as it's not true.)

Funny, where did I say I was in a business, or going into others houses wearing a body cam or that I even had one?

I do recall saying that if no one is going to look at the footage then no harm is done, which is quite correct as then it does not fall foul of any laws.
If a complaint is made against someone, say that they were "making sexual remarks towards a single woman" and a bodycam recording appeared then Im quite sure that
any legalities over how that recording came about would soon be ignored.
Just as they generally are.
I'm sorry guys, but no one gives a monkeys about the guidelines because that I'm afraid is all that they are - guidelines.
You will all vary what you do and simply say "but they are only guidelines - you don't have to do x".

Andy, are you aiming that comment at the Op? because that's the person that felt he needed to wear one.
Maybe when in the situation he described he should simply get another person to accompany him and charge the landlord appropriately.

If you mattylad want to wear a body cam for fun go for it (y)

If you want to ruin people’s lives who work hard for a living with some of the worst advice I have read on here recently then that’s not ok. Intelligence will prevail and I am sure no on will do what you have suggested which makes me happy. :D

I think my response to the phone call the OP received would have been along the lines of "thank you for voicing your opinion, but, as you aren't the person how booked the job, nor the owner nor the occupant of the property concerned, it has [insert appropriate word here, depending on how tired I was at the time....] all to do with you -- *click*

Buy button up shirts with a good chest pocket. Put your phone in your top pocket and film....
The only time anyone will know is when it's needed in your defence...
Most you can delete when you think the time is right..
