Bits for a Drill/Driver

I'm looking to buy some decent screwdriver bits (PZ2) for general woodworking purposes using my drill/driver.

The Dewalt ones caught my eye (£6.29 for 25) knowing their tools are well regarded by the pros, but on reading a number of reviews about them breaking and not lasting long I thought I'd ask your recommendations please.

I've had a set of those for the past 2 years, probably used half of them and I use mine in an impact driver daily at work.

I quite like them. They aren't the best but they are pretty good. Given the price you can chuck one away as soon as it shows any signs of wear. You also need decent screws, for example ones that come free with anything are usually rubbish. If you do want really good bits then try some Wera (but you'll get three or four for the price of 25 dewalts)

Bosch titanium bits last well but are pricey.

If you're doing DIY its better value IMO buying several good quality bits than the cheaper throwaway ones.

The breakages are pretty much universally down to use in 18 volt impact drivers. In that respect DW bits are no better or worse than standard Bosch, Stanley or Milwaukee bits. Used in a drill/driver however, even an 18 volt one, they won't be subjected to anywhere near as much torque and won't break any more frequently than any other big name brand bits (i.e. rarely) - in fact they are more likely to wear out than break.

I've only once managed to break a bit when using a drill/driver - it was a very well used bosch ACR pz2 that balked finally at removing a 6" screw that was rusted into hardwood.

I've subsequently used dewalt and wera bits - the wera ones will last longer but I tend to save them for use with good quality screws (i.e. well made drive recess). The dewalts I tend to treat as semi-disposable and will use on cheaper screws or when removing old/worn screws, when they get too worn I bin them and grab another from the box.

My ryobi impact driver destroyed loads of bits until I got the wera tri-torsion bit holder - since then it's broken 1 or 2.
