My domestic oil supplier has recommended putting an additive into the tank costing £20 at every top up. Is this a good idea?

If you are running a vaporising burner (eg Aga) then yes, a good idea. The additive also replaces some of the lubrication properties that have been lost in oil over the years, so it can make oil pumps last longer, but at £20 per fill, the benefit is questionable.

Thanks oilhead.

I should have said I have a Grant 50/70 kitchen multipass system. Any views on that?

It's like Calgon...cheaper to buy a new machine when you add up the cost.

Excocet does make oil pumps last longer as the oil companies have taken some of the sulpher out of the oil as you all know sulpher is a natural lubricant and with the reduced amount the lubricity needs to be topped up so Exocet is ok it's £20 a bottle but a big bottle does 4 tanks so not so bad.Bob

Because that is what the OP has.

Stil fookin irrelevant What the boiler efficiency is !!

I'm not convinced that it improves a vaporisers performance....Most work perfectly well without it.

If the fuel needed an additive then it would be dosed at refinery and charged for...…….Fookin "Snake Oil".
