Hi,

We're looking to replace our 20 year old Ideal boiler. We got 3 quotes, with one guy recommended Ideal and the other two Worcester - one Worcester quote was £2,175 for a 15ri heat only boiler with 6 year warranty, and the other was £2,250 for a 24i system boiler. with 8 year warranty.. I think the latter is better value so if we went Worcester, we'd go for that.

The Ideal quote is for an Ideal Logic 18 (ErP) heat only boiler for £2,050 but comes with a 10 year warranty.

I'm thinking the Worcester system boiler is the best option here, but should we consider saving some money and going for the better warranty? Thank you

just remember that in order to maintain any warranty your system must be clean and must be serviced every year, that is the same for any manufacturer, too many will dodge warranty calls with any excuse, I dont comment on an open forum about any manufacturer in particular, but there are better options available for similar prices, every installer has their own preference and all for different reasons .

I’ve been fitting a few logics recently. While they are on offer with a 10 year warranty and a promise that the cracking of the weld of the primary heat exchanger has been sorted then they seem a bit of a no brainer.

Thanks guys :)

Hot&Cold, obviously no longer than this :) I'm very happy with how the boiler has performed, but a boiler being good 20 years ago doesn't necessarily mean their boilers are good now.

ian, am I right in thinking you're talking about Worcester? :p

Whether they actually honour that warranty is a different matter...

Weld on the primary heat exchanger? It's cast, there shouldn't be any welds. What about the dodgy sumps, have they fixed those as well?

You haven't said what your current set-up is, but if it's heat-only another heat-only is a straight swap. If you change to a system boiler it means getting rid of the existing pump and F/E tank, and some pipework mods. I suppose that's included in the quotes?

Thank you, yes I currently have a heat only set-up - ideally I'd want to move to a combi boiler but we have solar panels and an iSolar Boost feed so it doesn't make a lot of sense.

The cost of removing the pump and feed in/expansion tank is all allowed for in the quote thankfully :)

WB 240 RSF, was installed in 1997 by house owner, 2 engineer vists, (mar 2008 (dvalve) n dec 2014(passing loop), not serviced since 2013 still going strong, was gonna replace it 2 years ago.

Am I missing something, why would someone be quoting a 15kw alongside a 24kw boiler?

Massively oversized if 15 is all that’s needed
