Joist in bay?

I need to ceiling hang some blinds (as the uPVC goes right up to ceiling). It's in a bay and it's not part of the main ceiling, about 8" below ceiling. I've tried to upload a pic but can't seem to figure it out. The bay is about 6' wide about 2' deep. The blinds are really heavy and I'm not sure the plasterboard would hold the weight. Will this little bay ceiling have some secure wooden supports behind the plasterboard that I could anchor onto? If so, are they likely to run across the bay or towards the window? Thanks for any help.

what sort of bay is it? -flat roof externally, pitched roof?

It might give a bit of a clue knowing what the outside looks like, but not that much -there will be some sort of plate above the upvc frames, probably timber and there are likely to be short joists to form the roof, but its all guesswork.

It's pitched. Tried to add a photo. A friend has said I can borrow a stud finder so I guess I just try with that. It looks to me like there's a row of brickwork above the uPVC but it's not like the bricks can just be balanced on the uPVC :) Maybe if I rub back the white paint in the bricks (it all needs sorting out anyway) I'll figure out the construction. Thanks for your reply. you've helped me think it through a bit more.

That roof will have a wall plate above the upvc to which the rafters and hips are fixed.

Then the roof must have joists going back to the lintel inside -the plasterboard will be fixed to that.

So internally you should be able to find some joists. there must also be a piece of wood to support the plasterboard edge where it meets to top of the window frames

Ther have got to be some joists otherwise the weight of the roof would make the want to collapse inwards.

Thank you so much! You've been really helpful. It makes much more sense now understanding what's going on under there. Hopefully I'll be able to find the joists and not make everything fall down. Thanks again.

There will be timber around the perimeter, about 50mm in, to fix your blinds to.

Thank you. I'll have a good check at that distance to start me off. Really appreciate the advice.

Thank you. It is really helpful to understand what's going on underneath. I hope my blind doesn't end up wonky!
