you can if the cable is in contact with the uninsulated ceiling on one side, so that any heat can escape downwards.
You can also have cable lying on top of insulation, so the heat can escape upwards.
But you must not have cable surrounded in insulation so there is no escape.
It would be best to put a non-flammable cover over the light fitting so that insulation and dust cannot fall on or into it. What sort of bulb so you have in the fitting? LEDs and energy savers run cool, but halogens, especially, get very hot.

Copy the old wiring (you did take a photo or note how it was connected, didn’t you.?)
Also you need 4 terminals in that box, you only have 3. You should not use the earth terminal for anything other than earth!
