This sounds like a silly issue, but a toilet seat (basic screwfix one, tried two different sorts) simply will NOT stay attacked to the toilet. This is in a rental property and the problem has lasted two sets of tenants.

I've siliconed the crap out of it, tightened the fittings as best I can... but a few weeks later it's loose again.

I've never had this problem myself, or in other properties.

Any ideas?

Get a decent seat? You really need one for the best seat in the house :D joking aside, you need one to fit the centres of your wc pan, if your stretching it this will be the cause.

Can you post a pic? I remember one from years back with steel bolts, and however much I tightened them it still came loose. Eventually I tried nylon bolts, just tightened with wing-nuts, and it was fine.

You can get them with nylon shear bolts - that'll hold . Don't remember make though

Put penny washers at the bottom tighten up they'll be fine

Metal ones?

This one has nylon nuts and bolts, yea.

Loose the silicone. It could be acting as a lube.

Fair, but I did only try that after two or three "loosening events."

Maybe I'll try a different brand/type of seat altogether?

Do they have to stretch for the toilet roll? This puts lots of side strain on the seat Hinges (y)

I don't have one to hand - it's at another property, but it's a pretty standard toilet seat. Was a cheapo once from screwfix at the time.

You have nylon bolts" inserted from the top of the pan, the head of these bolts being a wide, flat section onto which the seat brackets slide. There's a rubber washer (rectangular thing) on top of the pan, another underneath and then nylon wing nuts from below.

OK, that sounds like the one I cured using nylon bolts. I thought maybe you have one a bit like pic below (hinges not quite like that), where you had to rotate the bottom part of the hinge to suit the holes in the pan, then tighten a couple of Pozidriv screws. I find that type a pain to secure properly.

Listen chaps... I could write a thesis on Bog seats but won't until it comes with an appropriate pay package

But, in brief, problems are...

1. Cheap products
2. Obesity
3. Over-eager cleaning using wrong products.
4. Poor installation
5. Kids
6. Over reaching for toilet roll or bathing kids if pan is used as a seat whilst doing this.
