AIUI this is a ploy driven by their powerful car manufacturing lobby.Their vehicle standards are (were) much higher than ours. In the 80's my Celica needed some engine work. The cheap option was to import a low mileage engine fro Japan, which had been scrapped because it had failed on emissions.

Consequence of living in remote areas, I was astounded at the cost of fruit in Alice, all freighted in.Some of the jobs are a give minute fix.. But still have to spend the night for the next flight
I shall be recycling a 1976 P6 Rover engine
Rest of the car is scrap
1976 no road tax
No MOT![]()
You don't need to tax or MOT just the engine anyway, if you are scrapping the rest of the car?
Well yes but if you use the engine in anothrt car for instance build an AC Cobra replica
You get a 1976 designated age related plate on that car
40 year rule no mot no road tax![]()
No Mot. That's not right.
In Australia you do not have to Not your car until you sell it.
What's not right about it ?
40 year old cars Mots are voluntary

What about pink slips in NSW, similar to MOT required yearly for cars over 3 years oldNo Mot. That's not right.
