Farewell Democracy...

We do not live in a democracy- we live in a parliamentary democracy. We vote for representatives to act on our behalf.

Boris has denied our representatives the right to represent us. By definition, that is undemocratic.

The Brexit vote was not a representative vote. How can you say that? We didn’t vote by wards or constituencies and nobody was voted in or asked to represent us. We told parliament what we wanted in a straightforward direct vote. 52% voted out. That’s a majority. Get over it.

The referendum was a mistake by Cameron.

You are not really allowed to vote on things that actually make a difference.

Hence all the chaos.

My take on the mess we are in, is that the majority voted for Leave. Had the Remain supporters accepted the vote gracefully, we would have been out of the EU by now and with some sort of sensible deal. It has gone on for such a very long time, that now I will be happy to just to get out at any cost.

Someone had to take the bull by the horns and get us out, because the lack indecision is costing the UK billions. Once out, we can move on. I'm no supporter of Boris, rather it is a matter of supporting the 'least worst option'. He may yet well prove himself to have been the 'best option'.

3/4 parliament are remain. Shall we scrap public referendums and just let them dictate instead,?

I voted out.... I did my bit and went back to work thinking I've given my instructions for Parliament to act on my behalf... Its still not happened..... Strange veiw of democracy you have

I disagree.

Let's say that you lived in Cambridge, by way of an example, from memory, it had the highest remain vote. Should your representative in parliament ignore the will of most of his constituents just because you "did your bit" and that your other bitters scraped a very narrow margin nationally?

I have previously voted for parties that promised X,Y &Z but didn't deliver. I wasn't happy and accordingly shifted my vote the next time.

I think your interpretation of democracy is based upon the flawed assumption that everything that you or similar minded people want will become a reality.

You have the opportunity to vote for a different representative if you are unhappy with them. That is how our democracy works. It is how it has worked for a long time. For better or worse, we place our trust in representatives, sometimes they let us down, sometimes they protect us from ourselves and our knee jerk reactions.

How do you arrive at that figure? And could you explain in plain English what BREXIT means? Did the 52% vote for hell in a hand cart or did they vote for a situation where were are subordinate without the ability to influence the rules that we will be subjected to?

I think your talking about general and local elections.
I'm talking referendum.

Hardly a knee Jerk. We had plenty of time to think

Thankyou for correcting me indeed I've corrected my quote. My arguement all along majority of parliament are remain hence the delaying etc see my other posts.

So its democratic to enact a non binding referendum but not when our representatives vote against imlplementing it, but it is democratic to prorogue parliament?

David Cameron

"Britain faces a simple and inescapable choice - stability and strong Government with me, or chaos with Ed Miliband: "

Tories can lie and lie and people still buy what they sell. Might as well accept chaos.

Yes but the majority of voters are as ignorant of the EU and world trade now as they were 3 years ago.

In terms of parliament and Brexit, there has been no progress because Brexiteers want the EU to give them a free trade deal they dont want.

The lies of the Brexit party and the Tories have made them undress until all that is left is the 'no deal' fig leaf.

There's lots I don't know about running a country. But every General Election I vote for the party I trust to run the country. No exams just a vote.... I then leave it to them to run the country. I intern do my job and pay taxes as my part of the deal.
