If changing a few sets of taps on a y-plan system. Would you drain the cold water storage cistern? Attempt to turn the cold feed to the cylinder off? I don't think it fully turns off in this situation. Or bung the outlet pipe from the tank. Thanks for your ideas.
Careful if you're going to drain down the cold water storage cistern (cwsc) that feeds the hot water cylinder.
You could end up with an air lock, pipe run dependent and you need to check your cwsc is clean otherwise you could draw down a lot of material into the system.
Better off either shutting the feed to the cylinder down, there should be a red gate valve somewhere (caution - they can jam/break if not been used in years) either that or bung the cylinder feed from inside the cwsc.
