On the news last night the EU officials seemed ecstatic slaping him on the back all smlies. .........I find it a suprising turn of events.

What accounts for this seemingly complete reversal of attitude ?
Could it possibly be the alternative is see as a reality ? No deal could happen ?

And we don't want that !

..And they said it couldn't be done - the EU WILL NOT renegotiate! I tell you what, I bet they'll renegotiate on that if it doesn't go through parliament. He's now got that fish up to the surface and just has to reel it in. Gently does it.

I don't think its reasonable for the DUP to expect a veto. I think its reasonable for those elected to power in a democracy to have the right to choose. Otherwise you could have 1 MP vetoing the wishes of the rest. Thats not democratic. If the people of NI don't want to extend the deal then they can vote in MPs who will make it a manifesto pledge to scrap it. Its not that hard to see how this can work.

If Scotland leaves the UK it will be because JC allows them to as part of a power sharing deal to become PM.

Minority veto is part and parcel of the so called Good Friday agreement, Nationalists demanded it in return for an IRA cease-fire, this is why politics in N.I. are so dysfunctional at the moment.
Sinn Fein used their veto to bring down Stormont and cause a crisis.
Now that there is a danger that Unionists could use the same tactic to protect their interests people accuse them of being unreasonable.

The argument surrounding consent seems academic to me.

If RoI stay in the EU, Northern Ireland only have the choice of staying in the SM and CU or they have a hard border......which as weve discovered is as good as impossible.

I can see NI doing well out of having single market access and it could be boom time there.
Would UK businesses move there perhaps....
