Swapping basic light pendant with new light fitting

Hoping someone here can help with what are probably very basic questions.

I just purchased a new 2-way light fitting (this one) for our kitchen.

Currently in the kitchen it's just a standard hanging light bulb setup, which I obviously want to replace.

I've just had a look and I'm aware its part of a light circuit, with other downstairs lights etc, but what I don't quite understand is how I'd wire it in with this new fitting I've purchased, as it doesn't look like there's much room in the base part for all the wires?

At the risk of sounding stupid, but do you connect all of the red live wires currently in the one we have, in to the live connection in the new fitting, and same for the blues and earths (see attached pictures)?

If not, where do they go?

NO. You connect them in exactly the way they are connected now. Reds connected together in a block only, blacks (not blue in this case) to N, black with red sleeve to L, and green/yellows to E.

At least you asked, plenty of people have done what you suggest and come to here to ask why the MCB trips with the switch.

So just to confirm -

3x reds currently in rose go in to a terminal block (is there a particular type of block I need to get?)

2x non-sleeved blacks currently in rose go in to the N on the new light

1x sleeved black currently in rose go in to the L on the new light

All earths go in to the earth on the new light

Yes, but they will need to go in the base of the new light, you can't just shove them up into the ceiling.

The base of the new light is quite chunky so I can't see why that'd be a problem. From a curiosity point though why does it have to be sitting in the light fitting, rather than 'above' it in the ceiling?

Do the 3 wires have to go in a particular order in the 3-way connector, or does this not matter?

All connections must be inside an enclosure. The word "enclosure" does not include wrapping in plastic sticky tape.
So, you could put them in the ceiling, but the whole joint would need to be in a suitable box. But you have room in the base, so not an issue.

The wires can go in the three holes in any order. They are all joined together!

Ah I see, I wouldn't think wrapping any of it in tape would be ideal or a good idea. Sounds a bit messy to be honest

And nice to hear, thanks. Hopefully I have no more daft questions! I just like to make sure I've got it all right before attempting these things.
