I once knew a bloke who claimed his grandfather was German and having lived in Britain for donkeys years, married an English girl, worked on the docks, (the grandfather, not the English girl).
Anyway, during WW2 if bombers flew over, worked stopped and everyone peered up at the sky trying to recognise the planes. Occasionally he'd say "it's ok lads, it's one of ours", this could and did on occasion cause quite a stir.
