What do I need for Home wired network installation?

Ok thanks, does that mean a cat6 cable directly from one router into the other or can it be, cable from router into RJ45 faceplate, RJ45 faceplate to RJ45 faceplate, RJ45 faceplate to router?

Either way will work. The thing to watch for is that there is solid core CAT6 and flexible core CAT6.

Solid core doesn't work too well with the crimp on plugs and the flexible core doesn't work very well with the faceplates. So decide which way you are doing it, as a first step, before buying the CAT6. The short flexibles are always used to connect the PC (or etc.) to the faceplates.

Solid CAT6 is cheaper than the flexible and faceplates are quite cheap, you just need a punch down tool, to connect to the back of the faceplate.

Note that correctly terminating CAT6 in faceplates and patch panels in a way that will support the full 10Gb/sec bandwidth is more critical than for CAT5's @ 1Gb/sec. The cable dressing and twists right up to the punchdown block are critical. There are guides available online, eg:

Ok thanks for that, I didn't realise the importance of that, is there anything else I should be aware of?

minimum bend radius for the cable of 4 times the diameter. Too tight and you get impedance discontinuities that cause signal reflections and can result in data errors.

Ok will do thanks, what about electrical sockets and cables? are there guidelines for how far away they need to be from ethernet cables with regards to interference?

Yes - do not run in same channelling or conduit etc, ideally do not run in parallel if you can avoid it, cross at right angles if you can. Recommended spacing if you must run in parallel 200mm for unscreened data and power, 50mm if only data is screened, 30mm if both data and power are screened.

Hello again, just about to order my cat6 cable so just wanted to check what type I need to go for.
I'll be running one or two cables outside and the rest will be inside.

Thanks
