Smoke/Weed Smell Coming Through Chimney Breast

So is that how you’re paying for all your renovations? In that case, can you drop round an ounce of purple haze, 4 grams of Bolivian marching powder, 5 uppers, 3 downers, a few wraps of horse and my usual of angel dust..... the good stuff - not cut to crap.

On my way

Phone the police on them cannabis is illegal.
The police will do FA. Smoking in the house is not unlawful, and they don't want to know unless it's a full blown factory with vietnamese caretaker.

It would be better to tell the police that the neighbour sent a homophobic tweet back in 2010 and they will be straight round and ransacking the place for evidence to lock them up.

I had a similar issue but with my neighbour keeping dogs in the bedroom, the smell coming through was horrible! I was lifting boards to re-plumb/rewire so I had a simple route to the joists ends. My 1950s house had huge gaps around the joists straight into next doors under floor area so I just used a resin gun and sealed the gaps with resin. If access is not so easy, holes could be drilled near the joist ends and spray foam could be squirted in and the floor boards plugged afterwards...

That sounds like it might work. What would be involved?

Well very quick reply but I can research a bit more if you still need some help,

Like a bathroom fan, rather than sucking air from the shower and taking it outside the house, you suck air from e.g. your living room and push it into the bedroom.

It would involve and electrician cutting a 100mm hole with a special holesaw through the wall and bringing a 240V supply from a nearby circuit + a 3 pole switch . Hopefully not hugely expensive.

As long as you don't think these grilles are an eyesore.

And lastly some humming noise, but you can get fans running at low speeds and barely noticeable (21dB)

Let me know if you need more help.

If you were interested in using spray foam the best method would be to pull up the carpet and lift boards, however as they will probably be tongue and groove a more simple method may be to find the nails fairly close to the wall as this will show where the joists are. Drill a hole either side of the joist large enough to get the pipe from a can of spray foam in and aimed towards the wall. You would probably even be able to see down the hole and feel the draft coming up with the smell....

this needs stamping out next thing you’ll be smelling heroin through your floorboards.

MY god you bunch of snitches :D give him a bit of tolerance, so what if it's illegal it's only weed, and will be legal soon.

For me it's more about what sort of neighbour he is, work with them to resolve issue first. It's not his fault the building is sh1te but if he's annoying with noise and is rude well maybe then i'd consider it. Last resort though if he's a dealer be careful. Friend of mine came home to his lodger beaten to sh't turns out he owed some money to his local dealer, CCTV footage showed two guys casually pull into driveway and walk to house like friendly visitors.

that's a shopping list for a great friday night out (y)

Be careful you haven't just made the authoties known of a grow house. Your neghibours could end up turning on you. I would have mentioned it to them first.

Working in an industry where we see cannabis factories on a daily basis, it's really not often they are picked up by neighbours, they usually make themselves known by interference with utilities or boarding up windows, no snow on the roof in winter is another one.

OP shouldn't really worry about that, if anything speaking to them first then getting a ruck load of abuse, then reporting it to the council makes it way more obvious.

I've not had any snow at all on my roof all winter. Does that mean I am growing weed then?
