Conservatory built between 1999 and 2000 ho to check if comply building reg

hello everyone

It's been brought to my attention that the conservatory which was built between 1999 and 2000s with planning applications may not comply with today's building regulation due to the glass safe and building control may enforce it and this would cost me a fortune to replace all glass.

I checked the glass and seems to be double glazing but I don't have any certification from the previous owner. Does anyone know if the door and windows glasses were supposed to be replaced or at least the previous owner was supposed to give me some certificate?

I think the regulation for safety glass in critical locations came in in 1992, so maybe the glass is ok.

toughened glass will have a kitemark in one of the corners of the glass.

Im not sure if laminated glass does.

there is no requirement for retrospective alterations unless the property is rented or used for business.

If this was applicable from 1992 should comply but is the previous owner responsible for providing some certification? I'm worried as if I will sell the house again in the future I will be asked the same question and maybe will found myself in the position of replacing all glasses.

It's 20 years old and doesn't need to comply with modern standards.
By the time you sell, it will be older
You can get a film that is applied and has a suitable logo as assurance

It's way, way out of time for the council to take action.
And would the conservatory have needed Building Regulations approval in the first place? Not required if the floor area is < 30 sq m.

as per the others answers -even if it did not comply with building regs at the time, it is out of the time to take action

if it doesnt comply with current regs - well building regs arent retrospective.

if you are worried about safety then film might be the option

Im not sure of any easy way to tell if its laminated glass -has any of the glass got any cracks? -if any of is cracked but its still solid, then it may be lam
there are testers for laminated glass, but I dont know who would have one, maybe a local glass company.

Throw a brick at it, if it shatters it’s not laminated.
