Hi all

I have an Ideal Icos HE24 boiler. When I switch on the central heating, it starts making a loud whining noise and will eventually stop after around 5 mins. Sometimes it’ll start whining again and then stop intermittently.
I’ve noticed that if I turn on the hot water, it doesn’t whine.
A gas engineer has been over and checked all the main parts and he can’t seem to find what’s wrong.
Any idea what could be causing this?

The only other thing I would possibly check is if it has an autobypass fitted near the boiler, they can whistle/whine sometimes.

I’ve switched on the heating this morning and it’s not once whined. So strange

I recorded it and played it to the engineer who came over.
No I didn’t pay him. He contacted Ideal technical support whilst he was here as he wasn’t sure. He’s ordering some parts based on what Ideal have advised it could be.
