Petrol and diesel car sales ban brought forward to 2035

There are people who think that unprofitable and heavily indebted boutique car company Tesla is going to make a fortune for them, even though the big and experienced car companies, who know how to make a sell mass-market cars profitably, are gearing up to enter the market.

Hysterically, they have driven the share price up like a rocket. As good as buying tulip bulbs.

Tesla may or may not be worth the current share price. But they are profitable when they choose to be, they have similar levels of debt to other auto manufacturers and produce more cars than Porsche, Jaguar and the same as Land rover. Unlike them they're expecting to grow by a quarter this year. They also have the best technology on the market by a significant margin. They have the supercharger network which is still be the best fast charging network for long range driving.

Unlike the big and experienced car companies they don't have a massive infrastructure to build, sell and maintain vehicles that are going to have their sales drop to zero over the next 15 years. Unlike those other companies they also have experience building, selling and maintaining electric vehicles at volume and supply chains to enable it.

Yes but the guy who owns the company has a funny name.
I cant get past that

The roads were a lot easier those days though ; far less traffic , no speed cameras ( you only had to look out for the rozzers, who had discretion and sense if you were lucky / charming!)
People drove more considerably then too. Didn't sit 'up your arse', middle lane hog etc quite as bad as some do now. I can even remember when people thanked each other! I used to like motorway driving - good tunes on, time to think. Now I hate it.

I can't get past the fact he seems to be a bit of a brat! Felt quite sorry for the diver who helped rescue those trapped kids.

I recall a similar discussion we had back in 2017.

I sold the last of my TSLA stock on Tuesday. Avg buy price 265 usd. I now agree that it’s over priced at 900+.

I was of course delighted with the rally and short squeeze. Musk made about 4.5bn over night and Ellison around 2bn. My profit was more modest.

I bought in because I saw the value of their IP, not necessarily the potential of their rather dull looking cars.

my nearest motorway is M25
rush hour starts around 5.30 am now
it is virtually always full with 4 lanes of traffic both ways, and constant 'queue after next junction' signs....which are usually correct.

Perhaps you shouldve advised Crispin Odey, he has lost a packet shorting Tesla

The market can stay irrational longer than you can remain solvent....

Yes, I used to get up at 4am to get on the M25 (North end not South like by you) by 5am - it was very busy then too and that was 10 years ago. The M25 is a beast indeed and so is the North Circ :)

Depends entirely when you check in, and when you check out does it not. Markets are driven largely by sentiment, maybe they always will be.

Are electric cars prone to catching fire?

I wonder because I tried cutting an old flat lithium battery that was seemingly uncharged. After a few seconds it got too hot to touch abd started sparking.
That was just an old battery from a Samsung tablet.

It seems crash damaged teslas even catch fire days later at the car compound.

"Is it reasonable to charge EV with up to 750kw in carpark situation, where at present it is forbidden to fill a petrol tank?"

"Should there be a coded number or symbol placed on the EV registration plate similar to those used by commercial heavy goods transport?"

"Is there need for changes in MSCP design to accommodate the different added fire risks? Should parking bay arrangements be organised to avoid or reduce the possibility of impact accidents within a car park?"

"Should more sophisticated, intelligent detection and alarm systems be employed where EV are parked in large numbers?"

"Because a fire in an EV may take up to 24 hours to be fully sure it is safe to move the vehicle, perhaps the parking bays in MSCP should be capable of being isolated so the car park does not have to close?"
