Has anyone noticed any change in service levels in terms of getting inspections on site etc?

I'm about to trench and don't want to be left open for too long if they're being seconded somewhere else.

I think the answer is to phone them rather than asking you bunch of randoms in the Internet!

Yes.

We had a pair of steel beams that needed inspecting last Friday (20th). The BC gaffer rang me on the day and said take some photos and email them to us - which I did. I've known the gaffer since he was a trainee and he knows our work, as do most of the Staffs BCO's. He asked me if there were any calc's and if the finished product followed the SE instructions. I answered yes to both.

That's not a change. We've been sending photos for years.

I talked to mine today. Strictly speaking they're only meant to be doing inspections where there's a dangerous structure or equivalent, but in reality they're taking it case by case and assessing the risk based on whether it's indoor vs outdoor inspection, ability to maintain distance, and whether the visit is strictly necessary or whether it can wait. They said they were making better use of photos and videos too.

It doesn't really give me much clarity, but at least the answer wasn't "sorry we're closed up"

Most of the staff at mine are being furloughed today due to lack of business (it's a quasi autonomous private agency shared between three local authorities)

They're leaving behind a skeleton crew of area managers, one of which seems happy to come out to inspect my trench on Tuesday.
