I was called out to my brothers to help him with a leaking isolation valve. It was sandwiched behind the basin waste pipe. After multiple failed attempts, I reluctantly cut the waste pipe (knowing this will be a further headache) to provide me access to the copper pipes. I replaced the joint with a hep20.

Question: how do I fix the basin waste please? It had 2 elbows which the. Disappear into the tiles floor. I’ve had to cut one of these elbows and now don’t understand how the 32mm waste can be merged into this.

Ive attached some photos for reference.

Well you've put yourself in a world of pain there. Easiest option is to cut the pipe off square and fit one of these over the stub coming out of the floor. It won't look pretty, but then possibly it never did.

You may be able to score down the elbow joint, break the collar all around, clean pipe and fit a new elbow/coupling.
This might be your best bet, but a lot of care and patience is needed.
Failing that, as Andy said, a couple of tiles will ned to come up and some screed, until you can get a clear bit of pipe to join.

If you absolutely can't lift the floor or get access through the ceiling below then if that's a standard pipe elbow (36mm) then you could be in luck. Cut the pipe straight across and then fit a 40mm to 32mm compression reducer onto what's left of the elbow. Use a little silicone grease on the 40mm seal and nip it up nice and tight and it you may find it'll be able to compress just enough to seal it up nicely. Don't use McAlpine (I never say that ) as they have the internal collar which may get in the way of the 32mm pipe.

It is a bodge of course and not guaranteed as the size of the fittings is key but may get you out of a sticky situation until the job can be done properly.
