Looking at putting another socket on a wall the problem is theres a radiator in the middle of the cable run so is it safe to run the cable below the radiator chiselled into the wall and plastered over ( I know heat rises ) , because the socket I'm taking the feed from has wires running up to the ceiling and NOT under the floor and it would be a nightmare getting under the floor
Thanks in advance Pete

No cause that means the cable won't be in a safe zone

Why don't you run the cable up the wall instead as per your other socket ?

Firstly, cables must run horizontally or vertically to sockets etc. You cannot put a couple of zigzags in the cable to bypass the radiator. it’s simple, Close the valves, drain the rad, remove the rad, chase from one socket to the other, make the wall good, put the rad back.
in some cases you can swing the rad down off the wall without draining or removing it.

Next will be the wiring. Are you planning to run a spur from the existing socket (is it on the ring final) or will you extend the ring?

The socket I'm running from is part of the ring main and I can run the cable within the safe zone (150mm) what I'm.worried about is as the cable will be plastered into a chiselled out run will the heat from.the radiator affect the cable rating

The heating bit- not a problem at all. The amount of heat that will 'soak' through the plaster is minimal, any local warming of the cable will dissapate along its length and be absorbed into the masonry/plaster surrounding it. So all you have to do now is verify your socket really is on an RFC or radial and decide what you're going to do (extend the ring or just spur off the existing socket)

Yes, 150mm from what?

Will your new socket be level with this (horizontal I presume) cable chase?

150 mm from.the skirting ,yes the new socket will be level with the other one

As you can see in the diagram, there is no 150mm zone from the floor, or skirting board.

You said the new socket will be level with the old socket. My point was the new socket would have to be level with the CABLE CHASE under the radiator.

You're right hopefully I can get it level.ill have to check again thank.you
