Before storing daily groceries etc. prior to use we wipe each article with a solution of Domestos otl.

With a lot of groceries this can be tedious (although worthwhile), am thinking of using the solution in a small garden spray otl. Any ideas most welcome.

Its said ( or we are told etc) that sodium hypochlorite - the main bleach component - is very effective at killing the virus. Kitchen cleaner does just that but does need time to be effective.
We too spray and wipe everything that comes into the house, and if possible even cans or whatever are quarantined before being stacked into cupboards. Even the post gets left for a few days.
I still wear a mask and gloves when I go to stores, I spray them afterwards with a Dettol anti virus aerosol and that includes the steering wheel, gear knob, handbrake and whatever.
Maybe I’m wasting my time, who knows......I don’t care either. Thats the way it is going to be for now.
John :)

I don't think you are, John, at least not when you see the number of ignorant buggers walking around sans masks (on public transport and in shops), ignoring the 2m distance advice, touching everything in sight from packages in shops to door buttons on trains (it isn't just kids that do that), never sanitizing their hands, etc. (BTW the 20 to 35 year olds seem the worst in that respect). Having worked through the lockdown (urgent structural works) and had the opportunity to see what people are like I wont be in the least surprised if/when we get another spike

Stay safe

Burn the house down - that will remove the virus.

Failing that, Napalm spray.. same effect as above but looks more spectacular. :)

What John said above...
We don't sit at our table for meals, so I have designated 1/2 of it (with protective mats down) as the hazardous zone, all new shopping and mail is first wiped down on it before being put away.
Some stuff that we buy that we don't actually need yet gets left for 3 days before being put away.

The two of us that go out to work and can be near others use separate hand towels in the bathroom, I'm working on getting us separate door handles but the mrs is not so keen on the look.
I have trained the dogs to eat anyone coming within 2 meters of me (unless I tell them not to) - its a pity they are not allowed in Asda.

I used to think that shopping in Tesco was a lot safer than Asda until I actually did a weekly shop there and some guy in a boiler suit was picking up everything and putting it down again until he found the longest date on them. Customers eh, no matter what you try to do they always screw it up.

Ah well, time for my daily pills again. :)

We are told that washing our hands with soap or handwash inactivates the virus because it breaks down its essential greasy film.

So I would think that sponging your shopping down with a foamy sponge and WUL will have the same effect.

You can actually use WUL as a biocide on damp cloths and sponges (it prevents them getting that damp, mouldy smell).

The virus will not survive long on your shopping anyway. It likes smooth, non-absorbent surfaces like doorknobs or glass, especially if someone has sneezed on their hands and touched them. Maybe push buttons on pedestrian crossings or lifts. For best results you should touch the droplets and transfer them to your nose, eyes or mouth. Small children especially like doing that.

Being in our 70’s haven't been out since 13th March but do exactly the same with shopping and mail except use 95% meths to sterilise and will do so for some time after government say its “safe” to venture out

I'm also washing everything down that I buy from the supermarket in a diluted bleach. I accept that it is a bit OTT but so what, I'm retired I can easily spare 15 minutes twice a week. What I can't be doing with is getting this flu and having to self isolate in the spare room for a fortnight, esp this time of year (only 5 weeks till the nights start closing in) would hate to miss a second of this wondrous time of year.

Seriously, the only possible chance of me or the mrs catching this virus is from shopping, and even if that chance is as tiny as 1:1,000 or 1:10,000, what is the point in taking that risk? I couldn't care less if some clown giggles and points, I'm going to wear the P3 half mask when in the supermarket and I will wash down with bleach whatever I buy.

I'm sure we will be all getting a dose of CV sooner or later, but for me the later the better is where I'm at.

Its only OTT when you start wiping the actual food down. :)

they have been dipping their chickens in chlorine in the US long before trump had his bleach brain burp.

we will be eating them this time next year...

TBH you are far more likely to find that they become aggressive. Had it twice in a week. First one was some snowflake in a shop who started shouting st me that I was stealing from the NHS and using the sory of mask required for use in theatres (I wear a non-disposable FFP3 work mask when travelling on trains, buses or trams and when in shops - at work these have been mandatory for 15 to 20 years under the CoSHH Regs). Didn't seem to like it when I told him it was a work mask that I'm required by law to wear at work for large parts of the day. Mind you, that particular pudding was picking up and putting down stuff quite lot, insisted on standing user than 2 metres from me whilst he was delivering his ignorant and bigoted diatribe, but best of all he wasn't wearing a mask......

When we come across ignorant pigs such as this, part of me feels that we deserve all we get (n)
I managed to get some masks from Regatta clothing (ordered some trousers as well) and they look ok but who knows really.
The ruddy things need to be available on any street corner just now.
John :)

Can I ask why?

I understand this point if it was made 4 weeks ago, but we are no where near ICU capacity following the peak, and if anything now is the best time to get it, as all of the emergency measures are in place, and hospitals aren't that busy

Getting it when all the elective surgery is back on, and the ICUs are filled up to capacity with other cases is probably a worse time to get it.

Don't bleach your food!

If you want to be safer, wipe down food you buy with a wet cloth, then store for a week before eating. The virus should die in that time. Obviously wash your hands after doing everything!
