Starting in 15 minutes. Two weeks quarantine for those coming from Spain from midnight tonight. I have to say I have very little sympathy for those that are out there - there was always the possibility this would happen - but you just know that many of those are the type that will ignore the quarantine regulations and set the UK back. I hope they are monitored heavily and punished when caught.

Plenty of people have complained about the governments slow decisions to lockdown etc and I bet the same people will now complain about the speed of this decision. Can’t win, can they?

Calm down Mottie, it sounds like you might be referring to the people who:

When Trump banned flights coming in from China said "It's not right, he's a racist"

When Boris didn't ban flights from China said "he's killing our children by allowing covid in from China"

When Boris said it would be good for children to go back to school, the same people said, backed up by the National Union of Teachers, they can't go back to school, before our summer holidays, he's trying to kill our teachers and kill our children.
When he succumbed to the wishes of lazy teachers, militant unions and feckless parents, he was accused of 'stealing our children's education'.

Yes, you've hit the nail on the head, he can't win.

He will win though, because the sane right minded people are in the majority, as witnessed by the Brexit referendum.

What's sane about winning abject failure.

"Areas of the UK that voted to leave the EU have suffered the biggest economic hit since the 2016 referendum, according to new research that suggests Brexit is likely to further complicate efforts to level up underperforming regions"

Funny thing is, this was the only year we had decided not to go out to the MIL's villa in Spain. Not so my Brother in Law. Already lost out on his June booking and, up until 5.00 yesterday, was still going out there on the 31st. Wouldn’t be surprised if he still goes though!

I'm due to go to Spain on a motorcycling fly/drive in October and unless there’s a drastic change, I don’t want to go. Just don’t want the flight or sharing a bedroom with another person not from my household.

You could effectively share your bedroom with another person not from your household even when they have vacated the room.

Same issue as with car hire.

These companies are offering a cleaning pledge but you just know that there will be shortcuts.

I never thought of that. Yes, rooms would need deep cleaning to be safe, wouldn’t they?

On another note, I wonder if the government are looking for volunteers to go round checking on those that should be quarantining? I'd be up for that. :cautious:

This does make it difficult for Grant Schapps, he's over there at the moment I think.

It's an interesting challenge for people who've booked holidays, if you can't work from home then you effectively need another two weeks on the end of any Spanish trip now. Does that mean you can cancel and get refunds? I'd guess not as the risk was always there when you booked.

Any foreign holiday at the moment seems to be a bit of a gamble.

My nephew is flying back from Mexico this week - he went over in Feb and got stuck there.

The quarantine rules are full of holes: he can fly back to a UK airport, get on any public transport he wants to get back to his home and then quarantine. And the quarantine is only self imposed -when he gets back to his flat, he will need shopping etc, so of course he will get what he needs.

On the one hand the quarantine rules are silly, on the other hand it isn't worth the cost of going for Aussie or NZ levels of quarantine given we've got so much Covid-19 floating around in general.

Even then Australia's latest outbreaks are all tied to the quarantine facilities. Quarantine is hard.

How did that happen? My daughter and her boyfriend were there in March and came home a few days before lockdown.

Their return flight was after lockdown.

My nephews girlfriend is Mexican they were staying with her parents. Her parents are both senior consultants and live in a stonking great house, so it's been a life of 5* luxury.
