For those of us who haven't been following that closely, when is the EU inevitably going to fall apart? Because without a timeline it's pretty meaningless. Is it next week or 100 years from now. Just want to get it in my calendar.

Think back to 2016, when we were told that Paris, Frankfurt and Dublin were going to take the place of London. This never happened - neither Frankfurt nor Paris can even begin to rival London,which is one of the top three finiancial centres of the world.
Several EU insurance companies have been setting up in London because they can see which side their bread is buttered on.

They can keep on tweaking financial regulations to create nudge factors that will encourage financial services to drift over to EU cities. Ironically state aid rules, part of dynamic alignment could prevent that, but UK doesn't want an LPF.

Trade deficit is meaningless.

48% UK exports go to EU
8% EU exports come to UK.

UK businesses will become uncompetitive when UK becomes 3rd country. They will lose their EU customers who will look for suppliers with the SM. it's already happening, Poland for example is already taking some of that trade.
