'A' Level grades - how about a sensible discussion....

Avoided the trial? How?
In the same way that the establishment always protects it's own...

Set up a very lengthy and expensive inquiry with limited parameters...

Which then concludes with a few 'slaps on the wrist', but is in effect a total whitewash which lets the establishment figure off the hook...

Happens every time!

Let us see if you are so easy going, when Boris skips away from any covid19 inquiry
Are you saying Tony avoided the inquiry - giving evidence/testimony under oath?

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if Bozza tried to avoid an inquiry, no.

Avoided going to trial, in much the same way many politicians and wealthy do. I don't believe Putin, Dubbya or Trump have ever been on trial either.

What did people expect?

They picked an algorithm that was weighted in favour of smaller cohorts where the teachers predicted grades had higher influence. It just happens to be that private schools have smaller cohorts so they benefited more.

So a smart kid from a poorer performing school which tends to be in poorer areas would be viewed against the lower expectations of the school so were downgraded.

You reap what you sow.

Now that Ofqual appeals guidance has been withdrawn - is the icing on the cake.

The process used wasn't entirely out of the blue was it?, wasn't there some consultation with both teachers and unions?

Had the process relied on teachers predictions, and let's accept that teachers have only worked for 3 months out of 9, and that may well yet be extended, those predictions were so generous that that it would have meant an increase in top grades of 38%.

Had the results not been downgraded, the exam results would have been the highest in modern history, with nobody having even attending school.

Are you lot mental or something?

So in other words, the elite (private) school pupils will benefit...
Well, I don’t know about everybody else on here but if I’d spent my easily earned dosh on sending my kids to a private school, I’d be pretty ****ed off if they didn’t come out better than the majority of those coming out of state schools. Now come on, be honest, why on earth do you think people send their kids to such places - it’s not to get a bad start in life, is it? And just like private health care, if those students weren’t going to a private school, there would be even bigger classes in the state schools.

Provenance.
That may be true for your Gordnstoun's and Eton lot but those kids are generally set for life from birth anyway. I'm talking about your average private schools who most people haven’t heard of.

Top Universities are more likely to look favorably upon private school grades than those that are identical in state schools.

Probably.
That’s what you're paying for then. Gotta be some benefits or it’s not worth sending your kids there, is it?

Looking at the Tory efforts towards Brexit and Covid19 - no.

"Boris Johnson has been invisible during this crisis. He needs to take personal responsibility, and fix it."

Lol.
