Flat roof

Please can somebody help me my builder is on about running my flat roof on an angle higher than the ridge to drain up and over the ridge is this possible

Have you got some pictures?

Flat roofs normally have firrings (wedge-shaped strips of wood) underneath to give a slight fall to the roof towards drainage.

thank you basically from the ridge the timbers that the flat roof will sit on are about 1”higher at the guttering end, meaning all rain would run to the ridge. He said that he could counter act that by. fitting these “firings” that you mention. I can’t believe he would think that I’m that stupid. But am I, is there any way that water could run on a slope towards the ridge and up and over to drain?

And be counteracted by firings which is what he is saying, to be honest I think it’s the biggest bluff but I can’t figure out the logic in him doing this as opposed to just angling the roof to the guttering

Are you talking about a dormer roof?

Most flat roofs don't come as high as a pitched roof ridge.

In theory the falls could be directed towards a ridge, but the flat roof would have to be higher than the ridge and dressed over the ridge.

The builder doesn’t want to dress it over, he wants to use firrings to run it back to the guttering, which to me is physically impossible. Really appreciate your help

Is there a benefit in running up and over the ridge?, (but he wants to Chanel it toward the ridge and re direct it with firrings) and then he says it will drain to the guttering. It doesn’t make any sense to me and I don’t think he knows his ass from his elbow

If the dormer is below the top of the ridge tile, the water has to discharge off the dormer, either front and sides or any combination.

Falls should be 1 in 40

Abutments between flat roof covering and pitched tiled roof need forming properly. It's a very exposed location and access is difficult, make sure it is built to robust details or expect to get leaks.

Get the builder to do you a sketch of what he proposes then re draw it and post it here. Any rough fag packet drawing will do.
