Could a self employed person be still on it ?

Bloke I sort of know, owner driver (wagons), furloughed himself back in May, still has his wagon parked up. I'm just being a nosy bugger, could he still be furlonged? and if so when would that end?

Furlough is for employees only. Self employed are on the SEIS scheme. SEISS is still running AFAIK. The furlough scheme finishes at the end of October and I think the SEISS is around the same time. Anyway, you should be asking @ellal as he knows the ins and outs of it by heart. (y)

Who would have thought that - following a European lead :)
I hope not, if you mean follow the lead in virus infections because infection rates in some of those European countries are romping away. :)

Au contraire...

It's about supporting deserving businesses in their hour of need...

As opposed to those who will be licking their lips in the hope of more 'ill gotten gains' (n)

I can see the new scheme open to abuse. With the current scheme the employer has no ability to leverage the labour of the employee who is furloughed. Under this scheme they can reduce them down to 1/3rd hours and get the govt to pick up a 1/3rd. This will result in more people being furloughed and the employer getting a more flexible and better rested workforce.

But it will keep the economy going and stop the current trend of furloughed workers struggling to get back to work after 4 months off.
