A Spanish businessman who acted as a go-between to secure protective garments for NHS staff in the coronavirus pandemic was paid $28m (£21m) in UK taxpayer cash.

The consultant had been in line for a further $20m of UK public funds, documents filed in a US court reveal.

The government failed to follow its own transparency guidelines over 200 times on contracts for personal protective equipment (PPE) worth nearly £6bn of public money in total, FactCheck can reveal.

"The legal papers also reveal the American supplier of the PPE called the deals "lucrative".

No guesses needed for what the post brexit US trade 'deal' will mean for the NHS...

So when we get the 'health passport' ID card (another expensive IT project for non UK firms to benefit from), would it be too much to hope that there is a box asking 'did you vote brexit'?
And that admitting as such means you go to the back of the queue or get your own health insurance!

What do you plan to do about it?

A fair question. I donated to the Good Law Project that are taking the cases to court. This should not be a partisan issue. Billions spent on contracts giving without much or any due dilligence will need to be investigated. It's a sad reflection on our current state of affairs that it requires a NGO to undertake this.

Not a lot to do, since brexiteers knew exactly what they were voting for...

Thus the UK is stuck with the consequences!

This really isn't a Brexiter issue. This is a Governance issue. It looks like corruption, smells like corruption.

if he gets away with it, who's the idiot.....

this is the problem with civil servants & mp's, there is virtually zero accountability

Yesterday we circulated extracts from leaked Governments proving the existence of special pathways by which “VIP” and “Cabinet Office” contacts could be awarded lucrative PPE contracts at the height of the pandemic – and at inflated prices.

Don't blame the civil servants - they were acting under orders.

So what was that about the unaccountable 'eurocrats' that the brexiteers were so up in arms about?

It is actually, as the government know that they have to make a deal with the US and the NHS is quite clearly 'up for sale'!

We're stuck with nothing at the moment.

Surely you are mistaken.

After four and a half years, the Brexers must have agreed among themselves what it is they want, and made arrangements to get it.

You vote them in, you vote them out.

This is the tip of the iceberg, further reveals to come.

yes in 5 years time, when the other pillocks get voted in whom will continue to do the same thing...

all politicians are the same regardless of whom you vote in, it's all about wheeling and dealing,
