Have just come across some sites showing how to join various metals using aluminium rods. Would be grateful for pointers to the best places to start me off on this new venture !

Ye gods that’s a difficult one.....are you talking AC / DC TIG welding here?
I’ve tried - and failed handsomely - every time
John :)

Ally to ally, fair enough.....but to dissimilar metals? That’s beyond my remit!
Too many discrepancies between crystal / grain size, never mind melting points.
John :)

I think op may be talking of a lumiweld type thing that FB keep bombarding me with
Tried this but I couldn't get a decent weld, though to be fair it was an Indian built Lambretta engine casing and they'll pass off any old alloy as aluminium over there.
Ended paying a welder to repair it with a tig welder.
Lumiweld might work better with something aproaching "real" aluminium.

The solder must be cored, therefore? All new to me, this one - I'm just very sceptical about what I see on You Tube.
John :)

I wonder why they call it 'welding' ?
I've never come across it but if I can find a supplier I'll give it a go.
John :)
