Dyson Cordless Vacuum

Got a Dyson battery vacuum for the Mrs a few years ago & the battery died over Xmas.

Of course Dyson no longer supply the battery pack, so against my better judgement I bought the best seller equivalent off eBay . . . Like a ****. Yes, it's failed after a whole 5x uses as it will no longer charge. Putting the original Dyson battery back in & it will charge but not hold it.

Is there a viable alternative battery pack to put in these things? The vacuum is in very good condition & a whole replacement would cost £300+

Get one with a cable. Anything that's rechargeable is usually a pain and I go for mains appliances as much as possible. We managed with cables for decades, no sensible reason to change.

Had a rechargeable hedge trimmer once. Even when new it would get 2/3 of the way along a small hedge and have to be recharged. Hopeless.

Used one of those Dyson stick type vacs recently. Picked up well, but the tiny dust compartment filled up very quickly. And 300 quid!!

She has a Henry for the big jobs, these cordless ones are usefull for the little jobs & the odd 'accident'.

I hear you about the dust compartment, it's my job to clean the damn thing . . .

Could you not buy some genuine cells and re-cell the battery pack?

I have successfully done that with my Makita drill.

We bought a Dyson V10 absolute three years ago. Can do the whole house without the battery giving up. No problems with it but as you say, the dust compartment fills up quickly if you vacuum a carpet on full power but I suppose that’s the price you have to pay for something lightweight and portable.

We bought one of those about 5 years ago, still going strong, one replacement filter required.

But as we are laminate flooring, apart from the bedrooms, it is not overtaxed.

Probably not 5 years unless you have the V8 as they were new out when we bought ours around April 2018. Yeah, we bought a replacement filter so we always have one washed and dried for when the light comes on. I see new models now come with a spare filter.

You are right, ours is the V6, can't find the receipt so may be slightly older than 5 years.

My guess is that has 18650 cells inside, you will have a dead one or two that need swapping out. carefully open the pack de-solder the cells find the dead one and replace with either an old laptop pack or some decent new 18650s if you can find a reliable source. The other option is to bypass the dead cell.
