Would appreciate some general advice on the following please.
Our system comprises of a glow-worm boiler and a tornado stainless 170 litre unvented tank upstairs in the airing cupboard. On the top of this is a little red expansion vessel with a gauge on it. There is nothing in the loft. Is this a condensing system?
Anyway, the bottom of the tank has seemingly corroded and we have a water leak into the downstairs below. The gauge on the red vessel is still at one bar. The water around the bottom of the tank is substantial and its fairly obvious its the tank that has failed.
This is obviously bad news and just weighing up some options. The system was installed in 2005 when the house was built. It has 2 valves. a pump and an immersion heater.
A few questions
1, Straight swap of the tank is the easiest option but is it the best option or should i take the chance to swap the lot to combi? What is the likely cost to replace this tank and what is the rough cost to go combi? House is standard 3 bed semi in S.Yorkshire
2, Do i need 170 litre capacity and if not what is a smaller tank likely to reduce the cost by?
3, Best way of going about getting the right people to do this job? Google, checkatrade? What should i look out for? questions to ask?
4, What kind of warranty will i get with any work done?
Thanks for looking.
