Slightly extending wiring for plug socket

I am currently repairing some damaged plaster. It would be really useful if I could move the plug socket over onto the dark wood section (it's in an alcove, the TV sits above and the DVD player etc sit below, currently the cables trail and look crap, get pulled etc). The cables in the wall are only 30cm too short. From reading on here I will need 3 MF junction boxes and a length of cable. Is that correct?

you could leave the socket where it is and take a spur to the new location

edit sorry it looks like there may already be a spur from it in which case you might need to do as you said

There is actually no regulation which prevents one taking two spurs from the same socket, the only potential issue being that of getting four conductors into each terminal (although that's usually OK with reasonable makes of socket).

If you went with Sureitsoff?'s suggestion, leaving the existing socket where it is and spurring a new one off it, you wouldn't need any junction boxes at all.

If you need it quickly and really want to get rid of the existing socket,

Keeping the existing socket and adding another would be far easier and not require any maintenance free connections or junction boxes.

I agree - much better to keep the existing socket and install an additional one. One can never have too many sockets.
