Wrong decking stain shade - help!

So I was trying to stain some old unstained decking a nice pale green shade, and tried some Ronseal Ultimate Protection decking stain in 'sage'.

It was only after doing a first coat, letting it dry, and then starting to do a second one, that I realised my definition of 'pale green' differs from that used by Ronseal. My decking glows in the dark!

After looking into it a bit more, I think 'willow' might be more the colour I would need - it's a little darker.

Given it's a slightly darker shade of the same product, do I need to still strip the decking down, or could I just go over it a few times with this slightly darker shade? The wood was bare before so it's still drinking up stain. Or, if I need to strip it....how on earth do I strip freshly stained, grooved decking? Or could I just use 'rescue paint'?

if you have coated all the wood and its adhering well then yes i would just try say 2 further coats and leave for a week or so and take it from there
but otheres may have other ideas

You dont need to.

Lift the boards and replace them the right way up, and go with a different colour.

Yes, this only works if you have decking grooved on one side. Apparently the Internet hasn't heard of dual profile decking.

Well it has, but I admit I didnt consider that possibility, given how common the grooved-one-side is and how common it is to lay it grooved side up.

you can put a darker stain over a light one.

Let it weather a bit to roughen the surface, and it will adhere better.
